This Sunday we are sharing Ann-Marie Hyland, owner of Be a Great Teacher. Ann-Marie is a proud mom and shared with us that her greatest accomplishment is being a mom to three wonderful kids: Zoe (23), Ian (22), and Luke (20). Ann-Marie believes that family is everything. Professionally, Ann-Marie is an educator having served as a teacher at Xavier College Preparatory and Rio Salado College collectively for over 24 years. In addition to teaching French, she has expanded her expertise to include designing online college courses and has more recently become certified to teach yoga!
Recently Ann-Marie also recently founded her latest venture, Be A Great Teacher, a platform offering graduate-level courses for educators. This business allows her to continue building a community of excellent educators dedicated to teaching and mentoring. She is particularly excited about connecting with partner universities that share a commitment to fostering positivity, health, and growth in both students and faculty. The journey ahead excites her, and she looks forward to contributing to the development of educators and the enhancement of the learning environment.
Ann-Marie believes education is the most powerful tool to build community. She states that education not only opens hearts, minds, and doors but also has the power to shatter ceilings, and when executed effectively, it serves to uplift individuals. Throughout her career, it has been her mission not only to teach her specific subject matter but also to instill values of discipline, kindness, respect, and connection among her students.
She attributes the keys to her successful career and longevity in a challenging field to the healthy bonds she has cultivated with students, colleagues, parents, and the community at large. She acknowledges that these connections are crucial in navigating a profession that can be inherently difficult. Grateful for the opportunity to engage with many individuals who represent the future, she finds hope every day through these connections, reinforcing her dedication to the transformative potential of education.
Ann-Marie has a deep passion for various activities, including yoga, spin classes, sports and traveling around the country to spend time with her family. You can often spot her at The Underground, a woman-owned and operated spin studio, or exploring different yoga studios. Always embracing a philosophy that learning is an integral part of teaching, she remains continuously enrolled in college courses. Ann-Marie is also proud that in her downtime she makes a mean margarita!
Ann-Marie you are always the brightest ray of sunshine. No matter what is going on in life you acknowledge the challenges but find a way to make any situation better. I have always admired your can-do attitude and endless energy, so when you talked about launching Be A Great Teacher I was not surprised. You have a special ability to make a difference in everything you touch. I’m excited for you and your new journey and know that you will impact so many and elevate them to become their best selves.
